Wingnut Stables is a large indoor-outdoor, sex-positive venue space located in the Sandhills of North Carolina. It is privately owned in a rural area, and offers plenty of privacy and opportunity for rope and other kinky fun!
The space includes ample on-site parking, with a multi-acre outdoor space for classes and tying. Tied Down South will be utilizing 4 main areas:
The Hotel - The building by the parking lot.
Basecamp - The flat area with the posts by the parking lot
The Barn - The main indoor spaces down the hill
The Village - The outdoor space by the hill
The venue is surrounded by trees and woods; only spaces visible from Basecamp and the Village will be used for the conference. Wandering invisibly into the woods is not permitted. There is no shade in the majority of Basecamp and the Village, so bringing a canopy is a great idea! Additionally, this space is all natural terrain and so is not the most physically accessible space.
At night, the area around the Barn is lit sufficiently for play, and lights at the Hotel illuminate Basecamp enough to walk around.
Campers will be setting up in Basecamp, behind the barn, or along the hill between the two, or in the treeline (hammock campers).
The Hotel
This is the house visible to the parking lot that is used as a base for staff for organizing the event. Generally, please don't go into this building without explicit permission from an organizer or unless specified for a class.
Basecamp
This is the flat area by the parking lot, which includes a space for registration, outdoor hardpoints known as “the posts”, and camping for folks who would like a quieter space to spend the evening (further from the party). Basecamp includes the Glittery Pig, a space where food will be served throughout the event, and the Hotel, a space where staff will reside on premises.
Basecamp: Kilia self-tied on the posts (twice), and Gingersnap self-tied in the flat, camping area.
The Barn
Down the hill from Basecamp is the Barn, the big, red, barn-shaped building! It has two levels; the top level is only accessible via the wooden outdoor staircase. The following images of the barn were captured by Oys_n_Joys.
The ground level of the barn includes a large open space with I-beam clamp hard points and a metal post for hashiras, and 3 horse stall play spaces: a small bed, a bondage wall, and a large bondage bed (suspension capable) with an under-bed cage. A bathroom is located in the bottom of the Barn, along with an area for water and refreshments.
The top level of the Barn includes a wooden rig, a hoist, bondage wall, spanking bench, St Andrews’ cross, and other furniture. There is also a rack for playbag storage and a couch for aftercare. The top level of the Barn is only accessible by stairs, which are outdoors and uncovered.
The front and back of the barn include a concrete pad and are lit at night. The deck of the barn gives an excellent aerial view to watch the scenes and play from up high, or a space to cool down after a scene upstairs.
The bathrooms are adjacent to the Barn, toward the woods.
Bottom of the barn: Oys_n_Joys on a cross, Dani184 on the bondage bed, the bondage wall stall, and Oys_n_Joys on the basic bed.
Upstairs of the barn: Spanking bench, massage table, throne, bondage wall, barrel, suspension rig, hoist, aftercare couch with Kilia and Dani184 for scale, a cross, and the hoist in use by Freakspet.
The Village
Outside of the Barn is the Village, demarcated by 4 small structures (storage sheds, which should not be entered). The bathrooms (3 stalls with sinks) are located by the Barn. The village has a pillory and "vomitron" as play equipment and space to sit on the porches of the buildings to watch scenes, chat, etc. Parties in the village can include wrestling on mats on the grass, tying to the tree in the village, sitting around the campfire, enjoying a cigar in the paddock, getting your boots shined on the porch of a shed, and cheering on the festivities!
The Village: Four sheds with campfire space, Vomitron (circular, vertically spinning platform), pillory, and nearby clearings for tying to trees.
The Treeline
Between Basecamp and the Village and surrounding the village is a wonderful line of trees for tying, setting up hammocks, and playing. The sandhills are full of tall pine trees which are great for vertical suspensions, but the branches (if there are any you can reach!) aren't generally strong enough for suspensions.
Keep an eye out for critters and insects -- there are fire ants, yellow jackets, and wildlife under the brush. Staying within view of camp and don't go exploring in the dark!
The Treeline: Area with less dense trees for easy tying. Hounds-tooth and Angelica-Attacks tied to trees on the property.
Amenities
Bathrooms: Wingnut Stables has 4 bathrooms: 3 stalls in the bathroom building in the village, and 1 in the bottom of the barn. These include a toilet and sink and are stocked with toilet paper, hand soap, hand towel, and trashcan.
Wingnut is on a septic system. Do not flush anything besides toilet tissue and body waste. All other materials should be placed in the trashcans.
Water: Water stations will be available during the conference, utilizing large water cooler with dispensing spouts. If these need refilling, let an organizer know. Water can also be accessed by one of the several spigots throughout the venue; the easiest one to find is on the side of the bathroom building or by the posts at the Hotel.
Food: Meals are being catered by Raleigh Biscuit Company. Lunch will be a biscuit charcuterie box, dinner is tacos, and breakfast is biscuit breakfast sandwiches. Bringing your own snacks, drinks, and electrolytes is encouraged! We are providing base meals, but late night snacks, between class snacks, second breakfast, and elevensies are provided for you by you! The venue itself does not provide food.
Trash: Best practices are "leave no trace" and this includes packing out your trash. Please bring a trashbag (or two) to put your personal tent/camp trash in and take with you when you leave. There will be trash barrels around the space for food and similar trash.
Electricity: You'll want to charge a device at some point, right? We'll have charging stations (power strips and shady areas) available for you to plug in and charge for an hour or two during class or through the event. However, no overnight power is available for a generator or other camping equipment.
Privacy: Wingnut offers excellent privacy for you to enjoy rope, kink, nudity, and sex. Though sound carries, so keep screaming to a minimum -- or inside!
Sex-positive play space: From the furniture to the trees, you can be as liberated as you please. Just throw down a towel if you're sitting on communal furniture and keep your sweaty or dangly bits out of the refreshments, please. Some linens are provided, but bringing your own towel or sheet is a great idea!
